The Sandy Branch Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1977 and served the western section of McCormick County. In 1990, Savannah Lakes Community began to be developed and two volunteer fire stations were built, and one fire truck was purchased.
Currently, Station #1 is located on Holiday Road and houses one Ladder Truck, one Engine and a Brush Truck. Station #2 is located on Huguenot Parkway and houses one Engine and one Heavy Rescue Pumper and our Rehab Vehicle. The fire departments district consists of 45 square miles but can become a bit more at times when the county needs additional resources.
SBFD relies solely on volunteers. Our departments roster contains 45 members consisting of 25 Firefighters, 20 First Responders which includes several members that support a dual role of Firefighter/First Responder.
Sandy Branch welcomed Robert Morris as Fire Chief in 2020. Morris was originally from New Jersey, but moved to Summerville South Carolina, outside of Charleston, in 1986. He relocated to Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick in 2005. He became involved with SBFD in 2008 and rose through the ranks to become Chief in 2020.
We are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are looking for a way to give back to our community, please consider a role as a firefighter or support .
