RapidSOS

McCormick County Emergency Services (MCES) has recently enabled RapidSOS, a solution that provides life-savings data - including caller location, health and medical information, connected building and alarm data, vehicle telematics data, and more - to 911 telecommunicators and first responders in the event of an emergency. With this upgrade, MCES can access accurate caller location and additional life-saving information when responding to 911 calls. This may include emergency contact information, security system alarm information, medical and health information, COVID-19 symptoms and test results, and more.

McCormick County residents can also become RapidSOS Ready by creating a free Emergency Health Profile at www.emergencyprofile.org. By doing so, they provide first responders with critical medical information in an emergency to get you the right care at the right time.

How does MCES utilize the RapidSOS Platform?

When a caller initiates a 911 call, they utilize RapidSOS to access the caller's location, as well as additional incident-specific information. This information is made available to 911 through RapidSOS's partnership with RapidSOS Ready partners and is displayed to 911 telecommunicators through RapidSOS.

The RapidSOS emergency response data platform securely delivers information to 911 personnel from the apps and devices that we use every day. It can share real-time health data with paramedics when someone is experiencing a heart attack (e.g. current medications, medical history, allergies); immediately notify 911 of a car crash and share critical data (e.g. severity, number of occupants, car crash history); and alert a fire department about a building or home fire and share the location of trapped occupants.

Any individual can also opt in to share critical information with first responders by setting up their Apple Medical ID via the iPhone health app or by creating an Emergency Health Profile at EmergencyProfile.org, a free service launched by RapidSOS in collaboration with the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, and Direct Relief.

Why is this information important?

  • Seconds save lives in emergency response - this emergency information gives 911 telecommunicators the tools they need to provide the most efficient emergency response.
  • Telecommunicators can also access additional descriptive, incident-specific information about the caller via the RapidSOS Platform. Real-time access to this critical information is key to first responders and can empower a faster, smarter response.
  • By sharing more data than a caller can articulate in a phone call directly onto the screens of dispatchers the moment a call comes in, RapidSOS empowers our first responders to make better, more informed decisions.

Key Stats about the RapidSOS Platform

  • 350M+ devices with life-saving data linked to 911 agencies and first responders
  • 150M 911 calls directly supported by RapidSOS annually
  • 12,000+ first responders trained on RapidSOS technology
  • 5,000 estimated lives saved annually as a result of RapidSOS data
